As you may remember from this post (where I painted the insides of my cabinets with chalkboard paint), I mentioned that I had just re-painted my cabinets. That was true. When we first moved into this house, the kitchen cabinets had already been painted. It was the worst paint job ever. EVAH. There were heavy brushstrokes everywhere and the spraypainted hinges and hardware were rusty and gross. It was a mess.

Having a difficult time choosing Paint Colors. Have painted with ‘revere pewter’ (Benjamin Moore Paint) – not really liking it. Windows are PVC – color ‘Sandalwood’ (kind of taupe/brown) and cabinets grey brown stain. Would like a warm color not too dark. Stainless steel appliances and black countertops with brown, off white, gray flec. Please help with wall color and window frame (I tried to match frames with color of window) unsure. Would like warmth that’s why not sure about gray tones. Any ideas would be appreciated!

If you tend to be more adventurous when it comes to color, your cabinets are a great place to have some fun. Yellow is a common go-to kitchen color; on cabinets you can try a light, buttery yellow or a pastel shade more reminiscent of lemonade. Sky blue is another popular kitchen color for walls and cabinets. It can create an airy, ethereal vibe and looks great with white and stainless steel accents. Mint green or bluish greens can look really nice on kitchen cabinets as well.

Espresso kitchen cabinets give you this by combining conventional grace and lived-in comfort, making the kitchen feel less like a functional workspace and more like a family hangout. Often reflecting a home’s historical origin, it brings balance to competing elements to create a subtle blend of contemporary flair and traditional, classic nuance. Whether you are looking to balance out the warmth of a red kitchen island or break up the monotony of white kitchen floors, countertops and walls, espresso kitchen cabinets bring it all together perfectly for a touch of dignity that still keeps the space comfortable.

There are lots of colors that work well on kitchen cabinets, but it can be tricky to find the right one. Before selecting an unusual hue, take into account the other items and colors in the room. Look at your walls, counters, backsplash, floor and appliances. If you already have a lot of color in the room, it’s best to go with white or neutral cabinets. There are many different shades of white to choose from, but all of them will help your room feel bright and fresh. White cabinets can also brighten up a dark room. Some good neutral colors for kitchen cabinets include light gray, dark gray, or greige (a mix of gray and beige). These neutrals will help ground your space and give you freedom to incorporate more playful colors via accessories and appliances.

Thanks for all your tip/tricks/information! Love this. I’m struggling with my home. Kitchen cabinets are painted an off white/beige color, and all trim in my house is about the same color. Many wall and cabinet colors will not “pop” against a beige trim or cabinets. To add to the problem, I have tile countertops, which I love, but they’re that 80’s hunter green! Trying to find a wall color and eventually a cabinet color that tone down the hunter green. I tried a Tuscan red – ended up with a Christmas kitchen!

I always sand lightly first. This makes the wood grab the paint much better. These cabinets were high gloss anyway, so they definitely needed a sanding. I painted the base coat a rusty orange-a scary color if you ask me. While the cabinet is still somewhat wet, I come along and blend a dark brown color over the orange, always moving my wrists and blending, blending, blending.

The sky is really the limit when it comes to kitchen cabinet colors. If you’re drawn to neutrals and more colorful shades, incorporate both by creating two-toned cabinets. The trick is to put the light color on top and a darker one on the bottom to help ground the space. Try this combination with white or gray cabinets on top and yellow, blue, green, or red cabinets on the bottom.

A focal point in the kitchen, cabinets take up a lot of space and demand that you look at them day after day. If they’re painted a color you don’t particularly love, chances are you’re going to get tired of them in no time.

Painting your kitchen walls is one of the quickest, and easiest ways to re-do a kitchen. Before you rush out and buy gallons of paint, think carefully about what your dream kitchen looks like. Experts agree that it’s not just the color on the walls that determine how a kitchen looks and feels. How the wall paint color relates to the cabinetry, countertops, tiles, molding, appliances, lighting and flooring is very important. Before you buy paint, test sample swatches on your walls and observe how the colors look at various times during the day and evening. Bring all your color influencers into the room so you can see how the paint looks with all the various elements.
