When you get an invitation to join Geoff Bartakovics for dinner or drinks, you do not hesitate. You do not ask questions, do not ask if you can bring a friend because you’ll feel weird if you’re alone. You put on your party pants, pick up a bottle of Herradura Reposado, and you go have the most fun night of your life. As co-founder and CEO of dining and entertaining mega-site Tasting Table, Bartakovics knows a thing or two about, well, a thing or two. You see, not only is he a digital megastar, he also happens to be a member of New York City’s Volunteer Auxiliary Police Force, and co-founder of a book club with a fourteen person-long waiting list. Oh, and surprise! He started his career in finance before executing a flawless 180 into the world of food. Bartakovics is the quintessential entertainer, and when we got the chance to visit his Soho loft (which screams “I am home to the coolest guy in Lower Manhattan”), you’d better believe we wore our aforementioned party pants. Our day began at the Tasting Table test kitchen in Soho, where Bartakovics whipped up a batch of Tequila Gimlets before doling out ice-cold beers in take-out containers, and leading us to his apartment to rummage through his closet and eat jellybeans. Before noon (on a Tuesday…), we had a steady buzz, a sugar rush, and a verifiable crush. Here, he explains what exactly Tasting Table is and what it takes to launch a company, be a policeman, and (as if that’s not enough) actualize all your life goals by 40.

I've attended a few events at the Tasting Table kitchen and every single one has been an absolute delight! This second level space is one I'd walked past a zillion times in my NYC commute and until recently did I ever know this place existed. At the Tasting Table kitchen the staff is always on point, the space is always impeccably decorated to fit the theme and the flavor and presentation of the food and cocktails never disappoints. The menu is always elevated and delicious, from the appetizers in the beginning, to their sweets at the end of the night. One of the greatest parts about this space is that it leaves the kitchen exposed that you can see great chefs at work throughout the night. You're invited to view the dishes of the evening and really get a chance to see the inner workings of a kitchen. It's a great place to bring all Foodies and also a perfect place to bring a romantic date!

For my first trip to the Tasting Table Kitchen, my wife and I attended an event featuring Richard Blais and the release of his new cookbook. I would agree with Joanne B's description of the venue: warm, inviting, like a “cozy downtown apartment”. It was like visiting one of my more well-heeled buddies for a dinner amongst friends. There was a nice mix of standing tables, plush couches, and communal dining table space for diners to enjoy the food, and the layout was comfortable and easy to navigate. What I also appreciated was how the event showed restraint in keeping the numbers to a comfortable size, so as to allow those who were there to be comfortable and never feel crowded. And of course, the food was amazing, and the bartenders ever so personable and efficient. The space was a pleasure and the execution of the event was excellent, I'd be excited to come back to the Tasting Table Kitchen for another event.

Tasting Table is the modern media brand for for a new generation of food and drink enthusiasts. We report on food lifestyle with an inclusive approach and authoritative tone through premium content, original videos and trusted recipes that excite and engage the the senses. We eat high and low to bring you discerning dining advice, recipes you can trust and news you can use from the world of food and drink. We're an opinionated gang of always curious, anchovy-loving, order-one-of-everything-for-the-table epicurean obsessives. We're reliable. We test and re-test every recipe we run so you can be sure everything works just like it does in our Test Kitchen. And when we're out reviewing a restaurant, we pick up the tab to be sure we'll have the same experience you will. And we pledge to drink every drop of every bottle of beer, bourbon or bubbly that we write about. (Burp. You're welcome). We're connected. We travel to eat. And we're eager to share our recommendations from the road. We keep in touch with the farmers, chefs, winemakers, bakers and bartenders who define our epicurean lifestyle. And we translate what they're doing into tips and advice we can all get excited about. We're into this stuff. Food is our job but it's also what we do for kicks. We believe a successful dinner party depends as much on engaging conversation as it does on the menu (even if the talk usually leads back to what we've been eating). We believe that classic cookbooks make great bedtime or beach reading and that passion pairs well with everything. OK, enough about us. Welcome. Pull up a seat. Let's cook something together. Let's order another round. Let's live more deliciously.
