We saved money using a standard 3×6 white subway tile from Home Depot. Even though our backsplash tile choice was cheap, it's still a classic look and I really love the way it looks all the way up to to the ceiling behind the open shelves, and around the kitchen window. I also really love the light grey grout we selected. It is subtle, but really makes the tile a feature in the kitchen.

To liven up a basic backsplash, consider a beveled tile. “Having the tile done this way added a lot of dimension to the walls,” explains designer Tobi Farley. “It adds texture to the neutral kitchen, and the varying shades of bisque and sand complement the Roman shade perfectly. I love working with tile in new and different ways – it can really add to a design!”

Ooh, I really love some of the designs in this article. I really like the black counters with industrial light bulbs, and the white splashback really balances it out. It seems like an achievable design, too. I’ll have to save this to show my husband when he gets home
