It was not always chrome siding on tables – in the 1950’s color was everywhere. This red and white retro kitchen table and chairs reminds me of strawberries and cream. This table with the checkerboard floor creates the classic black white and red comination – that works amazingly well with the bare stone walls of this kitchen. “What shall we make the covers of our dining room chairs look like – oh i know, green zebra print – that should do it!” Ok this one isn’t actually retro, but it is certanily a modern take on a retro idea.. But i mainly included it for the clock and wallpaper – HOW AWESOME IS TAHT! Chic and quaint, what an absolute joyous use of a vintage enamel kitchen table. They really didnt hold back in the 1950’s – in a post war world the more extravagant something could be – the better it was. Another classic red white and chrome combination. What i would give to have this table in my room Perspex teardrop chairs on a white ufo style dining table – what more can i say. This is the kind of thing that could quite easily add a retro feel to a kitchen without going too far – it could quite easily fit in with more modern decor. The flowers on the top of this 50’s dining table are to die for. Now we are talking! The black pinstripe on the cushions of these chairs gives the floral pink pattern a real contrast. Pink is not usually my favorite color – but this is adorable. The studs in all of these retro dining room chairs are not actually always a design choice – it was the easiest way to cover these chairs with the minimum amount of cost. It sounds silly but this white and yellow retro kitchen table reallt brightens the room. The pale blue paint on the walls is a perfect combination – getting that retro feel wihtout going too crazy.

This table is a “Kitchen Master” by the Douglas Corporation and features a red formica top and chrome base. The four matching chairs have chrome legs, red vinyl seats, and white vinyl backrests. This set would make a great restoration project, but is also usable as is. Two of the four chairs show more wear than the others and there are three small (what appear to be) burn spots on the table top. The chrome shows some pitting and scratches, but does not have any dents or bends. The table measures 29 3/4″ x 47 1/4″ and stands 30″ tall. The seats of the chairs measure 15″ x 15 1/2″. The seat height measures 18 1/2″. The height of the backrest measures 34″ and the backrest itself measures 18″ x 13 1/2″ x 14″. ***Available for pick-up in Milford, CT. which is approx. 1 hr., 15 min. from New York City. Actually found it packed away in storage of a local antique store that sees more beauty in old wooden furniture so got a great deal on it. Second Find of the day is the Hooiser Cabinet in the back of the Picture. I ran across this by chance actually. I was out of town picking up some chairs that Brandi had purchased when i spotted this in

Another red, white, and checkerboard floor comibation. Now we are talking retro! Chrome table edge, white top, and checkboard floor (with monochrome chairs!) It is like walking into an optical illusion. The pink and white walls really pull this daring decor choice off. Lets not forget about the accessories. Multi coloured bowls, plates and knifes are a must for any retro family. Dinner for two at this table, you can almost picture yourself in the 50’s A yellow retro kitchen table with matching chairs – Why on earth don’t they make these anymore!? White and blue is a color comibation that i did not come across often when researching these retro dining tables. Which is a shame because it really does create an understated yet eye catching look – that could easily brighten up an otherwise neutral kitchen. I dont even know where to start commenting on this dining room. Plastic meal trays! If you are going to go full retro – imagine how fun a dinner party would be serving up food on these! Metallic green is just a dream/

The vinyl upholstery of the 1950’s was of a lighter weight than current materials, and usually did not have reinforced jersey backing like our vinyl does today. The result was that chair seats could split in transit due to extreme cold weather. The chairs of that era used cotton padding, not nearly as comfortable as the polyurethane foam used today.

The classic chrome 1950s kitchen table typically featured a Formica or laminate top. To restore laminate table tops, use a simple epoxy to secure any loose or peeling laminate. Fill small chips using a laminate repair kit, or mask these voids using two crayons that are roughly the same color as the laminate. Fill the hole using the lighter crayon, then add a layer of the darker crayon to help conceal the damage. The Formica Company lists a number of recommended cleaners, including lemon oil, that can be used to shine and restore laminate. If the top is badly damaged, consider covering it with a new sheet of laminate. Clean the surface with a solvent to remove grease and oil, then sand to roughen up the laminate. Use contact adhesive to add a layer of laminate to the table top, then roll out air bubbles and secure the surface using a laminate roller.
