Let one shade steal the show – A simple approach to layering grey is to choose a shade that will do most of the work, and then add small accents in similar tones. Here, dove grey covers the walls and cabinets, but is broken up by the granite worktops, dark range and deep grey lampshade, creating a cohesive scheme that contains some contrast, too.

Add a bolt of crimson – It’s fair to say that grey can be a triumph in every single room of the home, and it’s a winner in the kitchen. These Shaker-style, rich grey units anchor the bottom half of this cook space beautifully, letting the white upper level max out on light and airiness. What makes it, though, is the bold blast of crimson in the form of a curvaceous fridge-freezer.

From the perspective of color psychology, grey is the color of compromise – being neither black nor white, it is the transition between two non-colors. The closer grey gets to black, the more dramatic and mysterious it becomes. The closer it gets to silver or white, the more illuminating and lively it becomes.

Hi Sherry – So sorry for the delay in responding! It sounds like you have some beautiful materials picked out! I have glazed cabinets in my kitchen but like most stylized things, I think the days of glazing will eventually pass….but even if/when it does, I still like the look so whether it’s popular doesn’t really matter to me because I’m the one living with them and I like them! My personal feeling, though, is that white cabinets will have greater longevity than glazed, but that’s just my opinion. That being said, I honestly think it’s personal preference and which look appeals to you most. Did one appeal to you more than the other? If so, I say go with your gut. A kitchen remodel is a big investment and if, for example, you purchase white cabinets because you feel they will be in style longer but don’t really love them, then they aren’t a good investment for *you*. I find that most times, if you buy what you truly *love* then you will be happy with your choices. I hope that helps! Good luck with your project!

They say that grey is a color that does not show emotion, or at least it means gloomy or sad. This color is neutral, detached, impartial and indecisive.

Black appliances look sharp alongside medium to dark gray cabinets. This kitchen palette of black, white and shades of gray is understated yet so sophisticated. A touch of warmth is essential, however, to avoid a cold and sterile-looking kitchen. The rich wood floor adds the perfect dose of warmth and character.

Con: They Require More Upkeep – More cabinets also equal more surfaces to dust and polish. Glass door fronts will certainly require more maintenance. Not only do you have to wipe down the glass, but you must keep the interior space tidy and organized too. Throw in the fact that double stacked cabinets are harder to reach, and homeowners will have their work cut out for them when cleaning duties roll around.

Picking a color for a room’s décor is not as easy as it might think. Before you choose the color palette you have to pick a style and then you have to think about functionality. Gray, however, is a very versatile color, able to adapt to a variety of styles and spaces. Gray kitchen cabinets, for example, look stylish in most situations and help give the room a balanced look.

I used to think that gray only worked well in modern design or in seaside-themed rooms.  Wrong!  Gray continues its reign as the hottest neutral color right now and exudes a sense of sophistication and glamor.  There are so many different styles of gray to choose from, such as Pewter, Charcoal, Greige (a cross between Gray and Beige) and Blue Gray, that the color can work in any style of kitchen from traditional, to modern to eclectic.  And think beyond just walls!  In the images below you’ll see that the color introduced not just on the walls, but the backsplash, the cabinets and even the glaze.
