Publisher’s Comments Who’s this Publisher guy and what does he know? So who are the best kitchen cabinet manufacturers? I see this asked in online searches and while it’s a legitimate question, the answer isn’t as definitive as you might think. And here’s why: There are makers of cabinets almost too numerous to catalog, let alone do independent tests on to determine who’s best. I’m sure Consumer Reports has their short list of brands that they rate as good/better/best. But how many do they test relative to what’s available in the marketplace? Second, the determination of “best” is somewhat subjective. Sure, there are definite indicators of good quality and poor quality but there isn’t one gold standard. One person may think that anything other than plywood construction is “poor” quality. However cabinets made with medium density fiberboard may be just as durable and last just as long. Let common sense prevail here. “Better” products are those made with stronger construction techniques and more durable finishes. But there aren’t only 5 or 10 of these manufacturers out there. To some extent cabinets are a commodity. There are probably hundreds of producers that fall into the “best” category if you look across the spectrum of national and local manufacturers. Your most effective way to find the best brands are to look at what is available to you locally (both from a ‘national’ brand perspective as well as local producers) and see how they compare. Then, determine how they match up with your budget. What you should be shooting for is a manufacturer that can give you the most of what you’re looking for (quality — as you judge it, options, quantity, etc.) for what you’re willing to pay. In my opinion, that’s your “best” cabinet maker. Because at the end of the day, even if someone was able to say that Brands A, B & C are the best brands, they may not be the best fit for your budget. You need to take some responsibility for understanding what makes cabinets good/better/best and make an educated buying decision. I think that’s a more rational approach than simply relying on an arbitrary list of “great” cabinet producers.

Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo artsyphartsy_home_maker Hi hmacgarden, Thank you for this great idea! Wondering if you are in New Jersey or in Pennsylvania and if so which Amish cabinet maker did you use??. This is a great idea & there is a large Amish community in Pennsylvania the state next to NJ. Thanks for the idea of using Amish cabinet builders!! I don’t like any reviews I’ve been reading about any of the brands I’ve read about so far. Seems there are bad horror stories with every brand I read about. At least the Amish have standards that answer to ‘God’ & there is more of a chance of having them do a better job on our cabinets than some big company. 1 Like Bookmark April 1, 2016 at 11:45AM

Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo helaurin93 I recently purchased a set of Hanssem cabinets for two bathrooms being remodeled. My order was for two 24″ sink bases, two 15″ base drawer cabinets, and a tall 18″ linen cabinet. Cost, not including tax, was over $3,200 for the Brentwood style door. While the quality seems fine so far, we’re not quite done installation in the one bathroom with the linen cabinet. The shelves that were sent with the linen cabinet DO NOT FIT in the cabinet. My contractor contacted the dealer, who informed my contractor that Hanssem ROUTINELY sends oversized shelves that won’t fit inside their cabinets, requiring the buyer to then pay their contractor for the extra time to individually cut each shelf to fit, which of course then we lose one of the “finished” edges for each shelf. Frankly, I’m a bit angry about this. It wasn’t mentioned to me, it wasn’t disclosed on any paperwork. I just naively assumed that the shelves they sent with their cabinets would actually fit the cabinets they were for. For this reason alone, when it comes time to redo the kitchen and buy all new cabinetry there, I probably will avoid Hanssem products. Which is a shame, because I liked the style, and would have liked to have the same style cabinetry in the kitchen as in the bathrooms. 1 Like Bookmark November 3, 2016 at 10:19AM
